I often get asked how I keep my energy up between giving speeches, facilitating workshops, sitting in board meetings & being a mother - it's not always easy! As an athlete though, I learnt the importance of embedding micro recovery into my routine, & it's an invaluable skill I still use today! - morning & night routines, your to/from work commutes & in-between meetings – how you are using them? Each of these transition periods, gives you a small or extended window to decompress & re-energise, but many of us don't realise the importance of these blocks of time or plan to use them effectively.
It's easy to end up running from one engagement to the next, blurring the boundaries between the different elements of our day. But if we stop & make the choice to use transition times for our own advantage, then we can arrive at the next place with the right energy & attitude.
Try breaking for a nutritious snack, breathing slowly for 3mins in a taxi, taking a screen free mental timeout or a quiet short walk, listening to a podcast while commuting or exercising or simply gathering your thoughts before walking into a room, to create some new energising habits!
